Every spring, our neighborhood organizes a volunteer day to clean up the local park. I take part in it every year since 2019. This year, the turnout was twice bigger as last year. It was so a beautiful day that people stayed until the evening. The city borrowed us gloves and trash bags, and local business donated food and drinks. The organizers did a great work coordinating everything, and at the end, they thanked to everyone for coming. In my opinion, it's important for neighbors working together like this.

This proposal outlines a marketing campaign that consists on three distinct phases. Despite the previous campaign was costly, it delivered strong results, and the team has already done significant progress on new creative material. The campaign targets the young professionals in major cities. Not only it will increase brand awareness, but it will also generate qualified leads. We recommend to distribute the budget evenly across all three phases, as this is a more economic use of resources. By the end of the fiscal year, the campaign will run for six full months, giving us a complete picture of its performance.

I am writing to express my serious dissatisfaction with my recent stay at your hotel. I have been a loyal customer since many years, which makes this experience especially disappointing. When I raised my concerns at the front desk, the receptionist spoke me that nothing could be done. If the staff would have listened on the first night, the situation could easily have been resolved. In the hospitality industry, the trust is everything, and mine has now been broken. This experience has seriously effected my opinion of your brand. Two weeks ago, your manager assured me that the matter will be resolved within a few days, yet I have heard nothing since. I only wish your staff handled my original request more professionally. I look forward to receive your response.

Elena joined the company in 2019 and works here ever since. As a senior project coordinator, she is responsible of three cross-functional teams, and she is now used to manage large budgets with confidence. She gives close attention to detail and has received excellent feedbacks from clients. One area for growth is her tendency to overcommit, so she should avoid to take on too many tasks at once. During our review, I suggested her to lead the upcoming restructuring project. Going forward, her progress should monitor on a quarterly basis.

A new paper examines how sleep quality affects performance at work. The authors carried out a research with four groups of office workers, and each of the groups were tested separately. The researchers did several important discoveries. Error rates raised sharply among people who had slept less than six hours. In spite the small sample, the findings were statistically significant. If the participants had slept more consistently, their error rates would drop. They emphasize on that the results must be interpreted carefully, but they conclude that sleep is as important for productivity than diet and exercise.

I have moved to Denver eight months ago for a new job. At first, I had real difficulty to find an apartment I could afford. If I didn't take this job, I would still be living in my small hometown, so I don't regret the move. My neighbors, who's kids go to the same school as my daughter, have been incredibly kind. I'd rather to walk than drive, so I'm glad the city has good sidewalks and public transportation. On the other hand, I'm quite sensible to cold, and the winters here are tough. Of course, I miss very much my family. Still, it's time I join a local club and met some new people.
6.Preparing for a Presentation

Delivering an effective presentation is a skill, and its success depends from preparation far more than on natural talent. Many speakers lack of confidence simply because they haven't rehearsed enough. The more you rehearse, the more you will feel confident. Last year, I gave a talk with almost no preparation, and it went badly — I really must have practiced more. Experienced presenters are capable to adjust their pace when they sense the room drifting. Never I have seen a great speaker simply read from slides. Do eye contact with different people in the room, and before you begin, check that all the equipments work.
7.Learning a Language as an Adult

Adults are said that they learn languages more slowly than children, but I'm not so sure. I started Spanish at forty-two, and of course I wish I would have started earlier. I take lectures twice a week with a private tutor, who insists me to speak only Spanish in class. After two years, I've made a big progress, especially in listening. I've learned that there is no point to worry about every mistake. Still, I can't help to compare myself to younger learners. I pretend to take the B2 exam next spring.

After a long discussion, we agreed to stop to argue about small scratches, and he finally made us a discount of eight hundred dollars. We mustn't pay for the registration, because the seller had already taken care of it. Of course, no sooner had we driven the car home then a warning light came on!
9.A Trip That Went Wrong

Our trip to Lisbon last spring started badly. At the airport, the airline informed that our flight had been canceled because of a storm. If only we would have checked the weather forecast! We spent the night to sleep on a bench, and by the time we finally reached our hotel, we were awake for almost thirty hours. The cancellation resulted from us losing a whole day of our vacation. Which surprised me most was how calm everyone stayed. The airline later offered us a compensation, but next time we will travel, we'll definitely buy travel insurance.
10.A Month Without a Smartphone

Last month, I decided to make an experiment: thirty days without a smartphone. To my surprise, I succeeded to stay offline for the whole month. Using an old basic phone prevented me to check social media every few minutes. Instead of scroll through news feeds at night, I started reading again, and since then I read four novels. When I turned my smartphone back on, a huge amount of messages were waiting for me. The experiment really learned me how much time I used to waste. Will I go back to my old habits? I hope not so.
